David Kull
District 2 state senate
Vision Rooted in Service
I am David Kull, and I’m running for the South Dakota State Senate seat for District 2.
My history of public service stretches back to March of 1978 when I was hired as a police officer for the City of Sioux Falls. I ended up serving 30 years with the Sioux Falls Police Department and another 11 years as the Police Chief for the City of Brandon. After retiring in 2019, I took a seat on the Brandon City Council and am currently in my 7th year of service in that position. Then, in 2022, I was elected to represent District 2 in the South Dakota House of Representatives.
I am now seeking election to the State Senate to continue my service to District 2. My 41 years of service in law enforcement, 7 years on the Brandon City Council and 4 years in the House have given me the experience to continue to serve South Dakota with a common sense approach to legislating how our government functions.
I humbly ask for your support at the primary polling stations on June 2nd. I can’t stress enough that in most districts across South Dakota, the primary is the election. Please make the effort to get your votes into the ballot box this June. Thank you.
As we get closer to the June 2 Republican Primary, I wanted to share a little more about who I am and why public service has meant so much to me over the years.
My commitment to public service began nearly 50 years ago right here in the communities that make up District 2.
In 1978, I started my career as a police officer with the Sioux Falls Police Department. I was honored to serve for 30 years before continuing another 11 years as Brandon’s Chief of Police.
After retiring, I continued serving our community on the Brandon City Council, and today I’m honored to represent District 2 in the South Dakota House.
Over the years, I’ve learned that strong communities are built on many things: safe neighborhoods, strong schools, support for small businesses and agriculture, responsible government, and leaders who listen to the people they serve.
I respectfully ask for your support in the Republican Primary and would be honored to continue serving District 2 in the South Dakota Senate.
Conversations Across District 2

One of the best parts of this campaign has been the opportunity to meet people from every corner of District 2 and hear what matters most to them. Whether it is at community events, local businesses, neighborhood gatherings, or front porches, the conversations always come back to the same things: strong families, safe communities, good schools, responsible leadership, and protecting the South Dakota values we care deeply about.
I believe leadership starts with listening. These conversations are not about politics. They are about people, relationships, and understanding the everyday challenges and opportunities facing the communities we call home.
I am grateful for every handshake, every story shared, and every conversation along the way. District 2 is filled with hardworking, caring people, and it is an honor to spend time learning from those who make our communities strong.
Moving forward, my focus remains on practical solutions that strengthen our communities and help families thrive.
The three pillars of my campaign

Supporting police, fire, and EMS to keep our neighborhoods safe while strengthening emergency response services and protecting families across our communities.

Investing in academic excellence to ensure our students are prepared to lead South Dakota’s future workforce and leadership and expanding access to quality education.

Plan for growth responsibly by investing in infrastructure, maintaining strong communities.
