Meet David

Dedicated to Public Service Since 1978

I am David Kull, and my commitment to South Dakota is built on nearly 50 years of direct public service. Since March of 1978, I have worked to ensure our communities are safe, our local governments are efficient, and our state’s future is secure.

My career began with 30 years at the Sioux Falls Police Department, where I retired at the rank of Captain. Following that, I served as the Police Chief for the City of Brandon for 11 years. After retiring from law enforcement in 2019, I continued my service on the Brandon City Council—where I am now in my seventh year—and in 2022, I was elected to represent District 2 in the South Dakota House of Representatives.

I am running for the State Senate because I believe experience matters. My four decades in law enforcement and my years in local and state government have given me a common-sense perspective on how our government should function. As a Common Sense Conservative, I am focused on the practical policies that move us forward: Securing Public Safety, Upholding Public Education, and Enabling a Pro-Growth Economy.

I humbly ask for your support. In District 2, the primary election is the deciding factor. I ask you to join me at the polls on June 2nd to keep a steady, experienced voice working for South Dakota.

Beyond my time in uniform and on the council, I’ve stayed involved in our community through several organizations that are important to me. I don’t just believe in showing up; I believe in doing the work.

  • The Banquet: I served on the Board of Directors for The Banquet, helping to manage their mission of providing meals to those in our community who need them.

  • South Dakota Special Olympics: I’ve been proud to serve on the Board of Directors for the Special Olympics, supporting our athletes and the programs that help them succeed.

  • Dakota District Pipes and Drums: As a founding member, I’ve enjoyed being part of a group that keeps our local history and traditional music alive for the next generation.

Whether it’s serving a meal or supporting an athlete, I believe a leader should be active in the community they represent.
